How B&B came to be...

Years ago while on vacation I spent one night in a Midwest town. While having breakfast the following morning I noticed a sign across the street which read simply: "GUN BLUING". I have been a gun enthusiast since I received my first Remington .22 bolt action rifle at the age of twelve and had always wondered how bluing was accomplished.

When I finished breakfast I walked across the street and into the small shop. Seated at a plank table was an elderly gentleman surrounded by huge boxes of cotton, several wads of steel wool, some rags and a large bottle of some sort of off colored liquid.

We began talking about what he was doing. He told me he turned out the finest bluing jobs in that state. I asked him if what he was doing was all there was to it. He mentioned that there was a much more expensive method but that he could equal that result by just using the "cold blue" procedure. After seeing some of his "finished" weapons against the opposite wall I was immediately convinced this was what we ,here in the south, call a "shade tree operation".

I suspect B&B GUN REFINISH & REPAIR COMPANY was born that day. I began to read. I visited several gun manufacturers, a couple of reputable refinishers and many gunsmith shops over the next few months. I learned there was no short cut nor "easy" method when it came to refinishing a gun. We began to experiment with different salt mixtures until we came up with our own recipe. A formula which allows B&B to produce that deep blue-black finish so popular among today's hunters and gun lovers.

Next, I began refinishing the wood. All wood refinishing is done by me. No other hands touch it. Each stock and forearm is stripped to the condition it was when carved from the tree. After hours of sanding and preparation the wood is stained to the customer's specification. The wood is then sealed after which the work really begins. There is no Polyurethane anywhere in our shop. Tru-Oil is applied by hand. It is all hand rubbed and rarely does the wood leave here without at least 20 coats.

We are proud of our work. No weapon leaves here until I have personally inspected it. It's gotta be right or it is done again.

Please feel free to contact us should you need a price list. I will be happy to e-mail a list of the many finishes we offer with the corresponding prices.

Our motto is "YOU'LL THINK IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY"!

And, you will!
